Air Traffic Control (ATC) is often ranked as one of the most stressful, yet most rewarding, professions in the world. In India, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has the sole mandate to provide ATC services over the entire Indian airspace. The role of a Junior Executive (ATC) involves managing the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic. You will be sitting in radar rooms or the iconic ATC towers, guiding commercial jets, military aircraft, and helicopters.

This job requires razor-sharp concentration, the ability to make split-second decisions under immense pressure, and flawless spatial awareness. A single mistake is not an option. It is a highly respected, heavily specialized, and extremely well-paid career.

Eligibility: Strictly STEM

Because calculating speed, distance, and descent rates is part of the daily job, AAI strictly hires candidates with a strong foundation in Physics and Mathematics.

Educational Qualification: Candidates must have a Full-Time Regular Bachelor's Degree of three years in Science (B.Sc) with Physics and Mathematics. OR a Full-Time Regular Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) in any discipline (provided Physics and Mathematics were subjects in any one of the semester curricula). You must also have absolute spoken and written fluency in English.

Age Limit: Maximum 27 years.

Salary and Elite Allowances

The financial compensation for ATC officers is among the highest in the Indian PSU sector.

Pay Scale: ,40,000 – 3% – ,1,40,000 (E-1 Grade).

Stress Allowance: ATCs receive a unique Stress Allowance or ATC Rating Allowance. As you clear departmental exams and get "rated" for different sectors (like Aerodrome Control, Approach Radar, or Area Radar), this allowance increases significantly. Senior ATCs earn massive rating allowances that effectively double their basic pay.

CTC: The starting CTC is around ,13 Lakhs per annum.

The Selection and Voice Test

Selection is based on a Computer Based Test (CBT) covering Physics, Mathematics, English, Reasoning, and General Knowledge (no negative marking). However, clearing the written exam is just the first step.

Shortlisted candidates must pass a Voice Test. An ATC's primary tool is their voice over VHF radio. You must have a clear voice, free from stammering or heavy regional accents, to ensure pilots can understand you flawlessly. Following this, selected candidates undergo grueling 6-month training at the Civil Aviation Training Colleges (CATC) in Prayagraj or Hyderabad.
