CISF – India's Airport Guardian Force

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is a Central Armed Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. With a strength of over 1.6 lakh personnel, CISF is responsible for the security of critical infrastructure including all major airports, nuclear establishments, seaports, space centers, oil refineries, and industrial units across India. At airports, CISF personnel perform passenger and baggage security screening, access control, anti-hijacking duties, VVIP security protocol management, and emergency response. They work at all 65+ airports protected by CISF, including IGI Delhi, CSIA Mumbai, Kempegowda Bengaluru, Rajiv Gandhi Hyderabad, and Chennai International airports.

Posts Available

Constable (General Duty): Largest category. Performs baggage screening using X-Ray machines, passenger frisking and hand baggage checks, access gate management, perimeter patrolling, and emergency assistance. 10th pass required.

Constable (Tradesman): Technical support roles - Electrician, Cook, Carpenter, Barber, Tailor, Water Carrier. ITI holders preferred for Electrician and other trades. 10th + ITI required.

ASI (Assistant Sub-Inspector – Stenographer): Administrative and documentation role requiring 12th pass with a typing speed of 80 WPM (English) and shorthand speed of 80 WPM (English) or 65 WPM (Hindi).

Head Constable (Ministerial): Administrative assistant role. Requires 12th pass with basic computer knowledge.

Salary and Benefits

CISF Constable (GD): Level 3 Pay Matrix (Basic ,21,700). Gross salary with DA, HRA (~24% in airports located in major metros), and allowances: ,28,000 to ,38,000 per month. Constables posted at airports also receive Special Security Allowance for airport duty which adds ,2,000–,3,000 per month.

ASI: Level 5 Pay Matrix (Basic ,29,200). Gross: ,38,000–,48,000 per month. Additional benefits for all CISF personnel include: free ration (or cash equivalent in lieu), free medical treatment at CGHS/CISF medical facilities, Leave Encashment, CISF Welfare Fund benefits, and children's education allowance. CISF also provides accommodation at security barracks near major airports for posted personnel, eliminating commuting costs and providing safe housing.

Selection Process

Step 1 – Online Application and Document Shortlisting: Applications are screened for eligibility.

Step 2 – Physical Efficiency Test (PET): For male candidates: 5 km run in 24 minutes, 100m sprint, long jump, high jump. For female candidates: 1.6 km run in 8.30 minutes, 50m sprint. PET is eliminated in nature - only those who pass proceed to the next stage.

Step 3 – Physical Standard Test (PST): Height, weight, chest (for male candidates) measurements.

Step 4 – Written Examination: For GD Constables - 100 questions on General Knowledge & Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and Analytical Aptitude (Class 10 standard). For ministerial/ASI posts - additional English/Computer knowledge sections.

Step 5 – Medical Examination: A rigorous medical test including vision (6/6 in each eye for GD), hearing, and general fitness. Airport security duty requires excellent physical health.
