Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) is a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE). It operates massive petroleum refineries in Mumbai and Visakhapatnam, along with a vast network of pipelines and retail outlets. The role of an Officer/Engineer in HPCL involves refinery operations, project management, and ensuring safety in highly volatile environments.

What makes HPCL highly attractive is that they frequently conduct their own independent Computer Based Test (CBT) for recruitment, completely bypassing the GATE exam. This provides a massive lifeline to brilliant engineers who did not appear for GATE or didn't score well.

Eligibility and Massive Compensation

Educational Qualification: 4-year full-time regular engineering course (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Instrumentation) from AICTE approved/UGC recognized universities with a minimum of 60% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwBD).

Age Limit: Maximum 25 years.

Salary Structure: This is where HPCL shines. Appointed at the E-2 grade, the pay scale is ,50,000 - ,1,60,000. However, the total Cost to Company (CTC) offered is a staggering ,16.26 Lakhs per annum. This includes basic pay, retirement benefits, PRP (Performance Related Pay), and massive allowances for housing, medical, and transport.

Selection Process

The CBT comprises two parts: General Aptitude (English, Quant, Intellectual Potential test) and Technical/Professional Knowledge. Unlike GATE which is highly numerical, the HPCL exam focuses heavily on theoretical concepts and speed. Candidates who clear the CBT undergo a Group Task (where teamwork and leadership are tested) and a final Personal Interview.
