The Railway Protection Force (RPF) is an armed force of the Union, operating under the Ministry of Railways. The Sub-Inspector (SI) is a critical field-level officer responsible for investigating railway crimes, protecting railway property, ensuring passenger safety, and managing the RPF Constables.

Unlike state police, the RPF is a central force. As an RPF SI, you wear the coveted khaki uniform and hold significant legal authority under the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act.

Eligibility and Physical Fitness

Educational Qualification: A Bachelor's degree from a recognized university.

Age Limit: 20 to 28 years (General Category).

Physical Measurement Test (PMT): Strict height and chest measurements apply. Male (UR/OBC) candidates must be at least 165 cm tall, while females must be 157 cm.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET): The PET for RPF SI is notoriously difficult. Male candidates must complete a 1600-meter run in 6 minutes and 30 seconds, perform a 12-foot long jump, and a 3-foot 9-inch high jump.

Salary and Selection

The selection is primarily based on a Computer Based Test (CBT) covering Arithmetic, General Intelligence & Reasoning, and General Awareness.

Salary: Placed in Level 6 of the 7th CPC (Basic Pay ,35,400). The gross monthly salary, including DA, HRA, Transport Allowance, and Ration Money Allowance, comes to approximately ,55,000 to ,60,000 per month.
